Dr. Bruce G. Atkinson

Dr. Bruce Atkinson (“Dr. Bruce” to his patients) was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio. He attended Ohio State University for both college and dental school, and completed both degrees in 6 instead of 8 years.

After serving for nearly 3 years in the United States Army as a dentist, Dr. Bruce returned to school and obtained a Masters Degree in Orthodontics from St. Louis University. He entered into private practice in Holland in April, 1981, and has been in the same location ever since. His practice specializes solely in Orthodontic treatment.

Specializing in Orthodontics

Determined to be the best orthodontist possible, Dr. Bruce worked two additional years and passed the American Board of Orthodontics examination to become Board Certified in his specialty, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics – one of only ten practicing in the greater Toledo area. He attends continuing education courses every year, and keeps fully current with the trends and technological advances in his field.

Dr. Bruce enjoys raising his two children, Robert (age 11) and Nicole (age 8). The Atkinsons love the outdoor activities that are available in Holland, including water and snow skiing, tennis and golf. Dr. Bruce is a fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns, and of course, the Buckeyes – Go Bucks!

Message from Dr. Bruce

Dr. Bruce says: “I have always believed that I treat friends, and I can honestly say that I truly enjoy seeing my patients. I prefer to meet the patients between the ages of 8 and 9 years old, to get a feel for what is to come for their care in the future.

“How I determine an individual’s treatment outline is dependent upon what the patient’s needs are. 

“When recommending treatment, my yardstick has always been, ‘If this was my family, how would I do things?’ I do not recommend anything that I would not have done to my own children. You can work hard, be efficient, but you cannot cut corners. We still have to treat patients the same way we would like to be treated.

“I want orthodontics to be a positive experience. That’s really what it’s all about – providing quality treatment, and taking care of the kids.”

Dr. Atkinson explains to his patients exactly what they can expect from their treatment. He applies and removes all of the braces himself, while everyone on his trained staff works hard to help patients understand what to expect at every stage of the orthodontic process.
